English amateur golfer Kris Kim made history by becoming the youngest golfer to make the cut on a PGA Tour event in nearly a decade. Kim, aged 16, shot a remarkable 4-under 67 in the second round of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson on Friday, securing his spot for the weekend.
Kim, the son of former LPGA Tour player Ji-Hyun Suh, had a modest goal entering the tournament - to simply make the cut. His impressive performance, including six birdies with a crucial one on the 18th hole at TPC Craig Ranch, propelled him to this milestone achievement.
Expressing his satisfaction, Kim mentioned, 'It feels pretty good. I feel like I played well over the last two days. Stay pretty patient out there, and I guess it worked.'
At 16 years and seven months old, Kim surpassed the likes of 13-time PGA Tour winner Jordan Spieth as the youngest player to make the cut at the Nelson. Currently positioned at T24 through 13 holes in the third round on Saturday, Kim remains focused on his performance.
Looking ahead to the remaining rounds, Kim's sole objective is to 'go as low as possible' while enjoying the experience. He emphasized, 'I’ve enjoyed it so much the last couple of days, and being here two more days makes it so much sweeter.'
Kim's remarkable feat has garnered attention and admiration within the golfing community, showcasing his talent and potential at such a young age. As he continues to compete in the tournament, golf enthusiasts eagerly anticipate witnessing more of Kim's promising skills on display.
