A tragic incident unfolded in New Mexico as a 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of four members of his family. The authorities in Valencia County responded to a distressing 911 call in the early hours of Saturday, where the teenage suspect, Diego Leyva, confessed to the heinous act.
Upon arrival at the residence in Belén, deputies found Leyva, who was reportedly in an extremely intoxicated state, and took him into custody. Inside the home, the lifeless bodies of adults Leonardo Leyva and Adriana Bencomo, along with teenagers Adrian and Alexander Leyva, were discovered, all victims of suspected gunshot wounds. A handgun was recovered from the kitchen table at the scene.
Diego Leyva has been formally charged with four counts of first-degree murder and has been placed in a juvenile detention center in Albuquerque following a medical evaluation at a regional hospital. State Police investigators and a crime scene team are diligently working to gather evidence and conduct interviews to unravel the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
Once the investigation is concluded, the case will be handed over to the district attorney's office for prosecution. The community is reeling from the loss, particularly Adriana, who had dedicated many years as an active volunteer firefighter. The Valencia County Fire Department expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the impact of the loss on the Rio Communities Fire Department.
