The University of Georgia Police Department arrested 16 individuals during a pro-Palestine protest on Monday, as reported in a police document. The arrests included nine students and seven visitors, all charged with criminal trespassing.
The police report highlighted that the encampment on the UGA campus was in violation of multiple UGA Police policies. Prior warnings were issued to the protesters, informing them of the policy violation and the potential consequences of non-compliance, including arrest.
Following a five-minute warning to disperse given by the University chief of police, law enforcement officers proceeded with the arrests once the time elapsed. The report further indicated that the seven non-University affiliated individuals are now prohibited from entering the campus for a period of two years.
Additionally, the report mentioned that all officers equipped with body-worn cameras were actively recording throughout the incident, ensuring a comprehensive record of the events that transpired during the protest and subsequent arrests.
