15-year-old boy arrested after police find him driving a car in South Belfast

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on a number of offences after being found driving a car in South Belfast.

Officers from the Lisburn Road Station stopped two cars overnight in South Belfast after noticing they were being driven without insurance.

One of the vehicles was seen on the Ormeau Road just before 10pm on Tuesday, February 1, with police instructing it to stop.

It eventually did on Shaftesbury Avenue where it was found that a 15-year-old boy was driving the vehicle and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including obstructing police and driving without a licence.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Shortly before 10pm on Tuesday February 1, police observed a vehicle driving in the Ormeau Road area of Belfast and instructed it to stop.

"The vehicle came to a stop in the Shaftesbury Avenue area.

"A 15-year-old male was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including obstructing police, driving with no driving licence, driving without valid insurance, and driving whilst disqualified.

"He remains in police custody at this time, assisting with enquiries."

In a completely separate incident, officers in South Belfast arrested a man after he was found on the Dublin Road with individual wraps of suspected heroin.

Follow up searches at properties in the Donegall Pass, Ormeau Road and Carrickfergus areas uncovered suspected heroin, cocaine, spice and a large quantity of cash.

Two women were arrested at one of the properties and remain in police custody.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Belfast District Support Team Officers, conducting targeted patrolling in relation to street level drug dealing, observed a male on Dublin Road acting suspiciously.

"They stopped and searched him locating a number of individual wraps of suspected Heroin. This male was arrested on suspicion of Possessing a Class A Drug and Possession of a Class A Drug with intent to Supply.

"Follow up searches of properties were carried out in the Donegall Pass Area, Ormeau Road and Carrickfergus and a significant amount of Suspected Heroin, Cocaine, Spice and a large quantity of cash was seized. Two females were arrested at one of these properties.

"All three people are currently in Musgrave Custody Suite."
