Charli e
Charlie (Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter)

Seven-year-old Charlie is a playful boy who loves zoomies, and came to the shelter in May. He is an affectionate outdoor cat who can live with children aged five and over, but he would like to be the only pet in the home as he was previously returned to the shelter due to not getting along with another cat.

The shelter says: “Charlie is a happy, confident boy who will always greet new people at the front of his pen. He likes to follow you around, nudging into you for strokes and will jump into your lap for some snuggles at the earliest possibility.”

Merlot

After arriving at the shelter in May, one-year-old Merlot is a shy girl but is looking for her forever home as she begins to come out of her shell. She is an outdoor cat who would like to live only with adults.

Merlot is a “gentle and polite lady” who is learning to love ear scratches and nudging her head into your hand for a pet, but as a timid cat she is slowly learning to build her confidence. She is still easily frightened by sudden movements or loud noises, so is looking for an owner who can help her feel comfortable.

The shelter says: “Merlot is looking for a home with plenty of patience and understanding that she hasn’t come from the easiest start in life. If given time and lots of gradual affection, she will hopefully blossom into the lovely little character that we are beginning to see!”

Snowy

Six-year-old Snowy came to the shelter in March. An outdoor cat, Snowy can live with children aged 14 and older, and would prefer to be the only pet in the home.

A “super cuddly” cat when she’s in the mood for affection, Snowy is also a bit of a free spirit who loves being out and about for long periods of time. She is therefore on the lookout for a home with plenty of rural space to explore.

“Snowy is a loving but independent little lady, who very much enjoys spending time with her humans but is also happy to spend time alone and do her own thing,” the shelter says. “Snowy loves the outdoors and does like to spend a lot of time outside, but is also still very friendly and affectionate when she is done exploring her surroundings.”

Max

After arriving at the shelter in June, eight-year-old Max is on the lookout for a loving family. He is an outdoor cat who would prefer living in an adult-only home.

An inquisitive boy with an expressive face, Max is sure to bring plenty of entertainment to his new owners. Although he is very friendly, he can be spooked by loud noises so is looking for a quiet home where he can enjoy his retirement years in peace.

The shelter says: “Max is a funny little man, entering his senior years but still full of love and affection! He loves cuddles and will happily walk over to a familiar face purring and giving you head bumps.”

Autumn
Autumn (Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter)

Autumn came to the shelter in March and is six years old. She is an independent outdoor cat who would like to be the only pet in her new home, and she can live with children aged 14 and over.

Happy to chill out by herself or go on an adventure outside, Autumn also loves some affection when she’s in the mood. She is on the hunt for a home where she can go out and explore to her heart’s content - as long as there’s a big cuddle waiting for her at the end of the day.

“After a long period of being out, Autumn loves to return to cuddle up on your lap or at the end of your bed and get some attention,” the shelter says. “Autumn is looking for a forever home with lots of rural space to roam when she is out on one of her long adventures!”

Shadow & Arlo
Shadow and Arlo (Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter)

This lovely pair of boys are looking to be rehomed together after arriving at the shelter in August. Both three years old, Shadow and Arlo are indoor cats who can live with children aged 10 and older.

Arlo (pink nose) and Shadow (black nose) enjoy each other’s company, but can be a little cautious of meeting new people. But the shelter says that this can easily be remedied with a few treats.

“When they first meet you, they like to watch you from a distance but will slowly come around and want a bit of attention,” staff say. “They are looking for a home with a quieter space for them to settle, so they can feel comfortable and make a bond with their new owner.”

Danni

One-year-old Danni came to the shelter in August. She is an outdoor cat who can live with children aged 10 and older, in a calm and quiet home where she can gain confidence at her own pace.

Described as a “very pleasant and polite madam,” Danni can be shy around new people but loves plenty of pets once she gets comfortable. While she doesn’t seem to have gained her full confidence yet, staff are certain that she will come out of her shell once she is in her forever home.

“She comes across as quite shy but she loves the attention she gets from strokes and, once she gets to know you, will stand around you until she is happy to leave,” the shelter says. “Danni is a beautiful girl who will make a lovely new addition to the family!”

Drake
Drake (Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter)

Drake is an outdoor cat who can live with children aged 16+. As he is a little nervous, he is looking for a home that isn’t too busy - but staff assure that Drake will soon be head-bumping his new owners to fuss over him once he’s comfortable.

“Drake is looking for a home that will understand he needs time to settle and get his confidence,” the shelter says. “Once he is comfortable, his new family will see his lovely and friendly side.”

Niko & Mitzy

Another pair looking for a home together, best friends Niko (Tabby & White) and Mitzy (Black & White) arrived at the shelter in September. Seven-year-old Niko and six-year-old Mitzy are outdoor cats, and can live with children aged 10 and older.

The boys are a shy duo, with Niko usually the first to approach while Mitzy can hide away for a bit longer. As they can be startled easily, they are looking for a quiet home where they can settle in and come out of their shells once they know they’re safe.

“Niko and Mitzy are looking for a home together as they are very bonded to each other,” the shelter explains. “In their previous home, they loved to play together and then would snuggle up for a grooming session afterwards!”

Molly & Milly
Molly and Milly (Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter)

This gorgeous pair of girls came to the shelter in April, and want to be rehomed together. Both 10 years old, Molly and Milly are outdoor cats who can live with children aged 10 and older.

Although the pair are very attached to one another, their personalities can be quite different. “Even though Milly is the more confident of the pair, she is more independent and will only want a fuss when she’s in the right mood - whereas Molly is always happy to sit alongside you and get some strokes,” the shelter says.

Both cats are very friendly and always happy to meet new people. Any potential future owners should know that Milly has a common grade 2 heart murmur - while this isn’t currently causing her any issues, if she needed any treatment by a vet for it in the future it may be excluded from insurance as a pre-existing condition.

Mia
Mia (Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter)

Mia arrived at the shelter in July, and is around one-and-a-half years old. An outdoor cat, Mia can live with children aged six and older.

An “extremely friendly and cuddly girl”, Mia will undoubtedly make one lucky family very happy with her boundless amounts of affection. “Mia is a total sweetheart and a complete softie,” the shelter says.

“She will seek you out to pick her up and carry her around. She is the ideal cat for a family who are looking for an affectionate new member who will enjoy hugs with all of the family.”

Val
Val (Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter)

Six-year-old Val has been at the shelter the longest, having arrived in March. A friendly girl who is always meowing for attention, she is an outdoor cat who can live with children aged five and older - ideally in a house full of multiple people who can shower her with lots of cuddles.

“Val loves affection and will happily cuddle into your arms when picked up,” the shelter says. “She loves a good ear scratch. She has been known in her previous home to sneak into your bed at night for a cuddle.”

Staff add: “Val is a very playful girl and loves throwing her bouncy ball round her pen or dragging around her string toys - she enjoys catnip mice and anything she can chase! Val is looking for a forever home that has the time and energy to keep her entertained, in return she will give you plenty of love and affection.”

Val is carrying a few extra pounds, which staff hope will fall off once she gets settled running about her new home. Val also has a common grade 2 heart murmur, which anyone thinking of rehoming her should be aware of as although it’s not causing her any issues at the moment it could be excluded from pet insurance in the future.
