£15 England Wembley tickets on sale for £1,500 as clamour to see Lionesses triumph hits fever pitch

Tickets for the Lionesses in the Women’s Euro final are on sale for almost a hundred times their face value as fans rush to see what could be English football’s biggest success since 1966.

Prices that started at just £15 for a seat before the tournament started and the Lionesses began their march to Wembley are on offer for up to just under £1,500 on resale sites and are expected to climb even higher.

Sunday’s sold-out match at the national stadium, which has a 90,000 capacity, will set a record for attendance for a women’s game in England as excitement around the Lionesses’ journey to the final reaches fever pitch.

It will also smash the record for the number of people to attend a European Women’s Championship game which was set at the start of the tournament when 68,871 people watched England beat Austria 1-0 in the opening fixture at Old Trafford.

The final, against Germany, could also pull in a record TV audience as more and more viewers have tuned in as the tournament has progressed.

About nine million people watched England beat Spain on TV and online in the quarter final while 11.3 million tuned in for the semi-final win over Sweden. That is just under the record 11.7 million who saw England play the USA in the 2019 World Cup semi-final.

England’s progress to the final continues manager Sarina Wiegman’s amazing record of being unbeaten in all 19 games she has led the team.

Wiegman, who previously led her native Netherlands to Euros victory in 2017, said the team would be ready for the final. She said: “We want to inspire the nation and make a difference. I think that’s what we’re doing. We want to make the country proud of us.”

Hundreds of thousands of fans are expected to pack out pubs and clubs as well as venues including Box Park Croydon. The final will also see a specially increased fan zone set up in Trafalgar Square. Free access will be provided for 7,000 fans on Sunday, 2,000 more than the semi-final’s screening capacity.
