145th overall pick Jammie Robinson: There’s not 144 guys better than me

New Carolina Panthers safety Jammie Robinson must be a big Cam Newton fan.

On Saturday afternoon, the Florida State University defender was selected with the 145th overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft. But Robinson, who spoke to team reporters shortly after the announcement, is confident that there aren’t 144 players from this weekend who are better than him.

“I’ve been upset since yesterday,” he said of having to wait for his name to be called. “I’ve been upset about just this whole thing. But I know this pick is gonna be the best pick in the draft. Carolina Panthers, y’all know I’m finna come in, I’m finna compete for a spot. I’m just gonna be a team guy. I know there’s not 144 guys better than me. But, hey, it is what it is.”

What it seems to be is a steal for the Panthers, who were able to nab the projected Day 2 pick in the fifth round. Robinson is viewed as one of the most well-rounded safeties of the class, one that apparently shouldn’t have the 22-year-old anywhere near that No. 145 spot.

Regardless, Carolina might’ve gotten themselves a keeper—in Robinson and in the guy who went 144 picks ahead of him.

“I knew he was gonna be the first pick,” Robinson said of Bryce Young. “He’s a great quarterback, great leader, great guy. I mean, the winning speaks for itself. He was at Alabama. You know, he’s not the biggest. He’s not the biggest. But guess what? He’s a dawg. You know what I’m sayin’? The dawg’s gonna last.”

So, it looks as though the Philadelphia Eagles didn’t take all the dawgs this year after all.
