Fourteen-year-old Cavan Sullivan made history on Wednesday night as he became the youngest player in Major League Soccer history. Sullivan, a midfielder for the Philadelphia Union, entered the game as a substitute in the 85th minute against the New England Revolution. At 14 years and 293 days old, Sullivan surpassed Freddy Adu as the youngest player to debut in MLS.

Sullivan's debut came moments after his brother, 20-year-old Quinn, scored a goal for Philadelphia, extending their lead to 5-1. Despite his young age, Sullivan managed to get a few touches on the ball during the final minutes of the match. He even attempted a shot on goal from outside the penalty area in injury time, which was saved by the opposing goalkeeper.

Former MLS player Freddy Adu congratulated Sullivan on social media for breaking the record and praised the young player for his achievement. Sullivan's debut at 14 years old makes him younger than any player who has appeared in major professional sports leagues such as the NBA, NHL, NFL, NWSL, WNBA, or Major League Baseball since 1970.

Having been born in Philadelphia to parents with a soccer background, Sullivan joined the Philadelphia Union's youth academy four years ago. He had previously made his professional debut in March for the Philadelphia Union II in MLS' developmental league.

Sullivan's record-breaking debut has garnered attention not only in MLS but also in the broader sports world. His accomplishment highlights his talent and potential as a young player in the league.
