14,373 new Covid cases, 27 more deaths

There were 27 more Covid-19 fatalities and 14,373 new cases registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Tuesday morning.

This compared with the 26 coronavirus-related fatalities and 14,900 new cases reported on Monday morning.

The 27 new fatalities were between the ages of 39 and 95 years.

Bangkok had eight new coronavirus-related deaths, and there was one more in the adjacent province of Samut Prakan.

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded five more deaths – in Chon Buri (2), Ratchaburi (2) and Phetchaburi (1).

The Northeast had eight new fatalities - in Si Sa Ket (2), Udon Thani (2), Loei (1), Chaiyaphum (1), Maha Sarakham (1) and Ubon Ratchathani (1).

The South reported four more deaths - in Phuket (2), Phangnga (1) and Surat Thani (1).

The North saw one new fatality, in Phetchabun.

There were 14,046 new cases in the general population, 131 among prison inmates and 196 imported cases.

Of the local Covid-19 infections, 14,007 were confirmed at hospitals and 39 via mass testing.

Bangkok still had the most new cases at 3,180, followed by 887 in Samut Prakan, 548 in Chon Buri, 512 in Nonthaburi, 469 in Phuket, 429 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 354 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 345 in Nakhon Pathom, 337 in Samut Sakhon and 317 in Chiang Mai.

The 196 imported cases included 85 from Russia, 13 from Myanmar, 12 from Germany and nine from Kazakhstan.

On Monday 132,728 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 129,933 the previous day), including 702 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 687) and 145 dependent on ventilators (up from 138).

The 24-hour period also saw 11,551 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,622,600 Covid-19 cases, including 399,165 cases this year, with 2,467,383 complete recoveries to date.

The death toll stood at 22,489 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 791 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 1.45 million in 24 hours to 413.89 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,521 to 5.84 million.

The United States had the most cases at 79.51 million, up 79,155, and the most deaths at 945,975, up 940.
