Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum has reported that approximately 8 of her personnel responded to the Apalachee High School shooting in Winder, Georgia on Wednesday.

The Sheriff's Office shared a statement from the FBI's Atlanta Division, revealing that the suspected shooter had been under their surveillance as a potential threat since last year. This was due to receiving information about online threats that included images of guns.

Online threats with gun images led to the surveillance.

Following this information, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office took action by locating a possible subject, a 13-year-old male, and conducting an interview with him and his father. The father disclosed that there were hunting guns in their residence, but assured that the subject did not have unsupervised access to them. The subject himself denied making any threats online.

In response to this situation, Jackson County authorities alerted local schools to keep a close watch on the subject for ongoing monitoring.
