12 radio jingle 'earworms' we've all still got stuck in our heads

People on Merseyside who grew up listening to radio will likely have an unshakable advert or jingle still lodged in their heads from decades before.

An 'earworm', or sometimes 'brainworm', is a catchy piece of music, or saying, that occupies a person's mind long after first hearing it. No doubt, the advert jingles we heard on radio growing up would qualify as they still claim a place in our collective psyches many years later.

Growing up in Merseyside, one of the main suppliers of unshakably 'sticky' earworm jingles was Radio City. Launched in 1974, it became the main commercial radio station in the region, making much of its revenue through advertising unlike the BBC funded Radio Merseyside.

Anyone with Radio City playing in the background as they got ready for school, or work, will have been subject to many 'classic' advertising jingles that still rattle about in your head to this day. Whether that was for car dealerships, solicitors, or cab companies, the adverts once sprinkled with repetitive and catchy phrases for radio, have now a permanent home in our brains.

It's a well-worn tactic of the advertising industry that still works wonders to this day. Some more recent examples of the art-form from both radio and TV advertising include 'Autoglass repair, Autoglass replace', 'Moooonpig Dot Com', or who could forget, 'Ohhh Bodyform, Bodyform for yooooou.'

What's even more remarkable is that some of these are so catchy, they can even make us real off their old telephone numbers easier than our own. So now that you have the urge to flush these commercial jingles out of your head, we've put together a list of 12 'earworms' most of us still can't get rid of.

If you can think of any other obvious radio jingles we've missed, let us know in the comments below.
