116 people have lost their lives on Irish roads so far in 2022, which is is an increase of 11 deaths compared to the same time period in 2021 and 2019.
There has been one fatality on Irish roads in October thus far, according to An Garda Siochana.
Statistics released by the Gardai show that there have been 116 fatalities on Irish roads this year so far.
The figures, compiled by the Gardai, show that there were 116 fatalities on our roads up to 9am today, October 3.
A breakdown of the numbers show that the majority of deaths were drivers, totalling 49 out of the overall figure.
22 pedestrians died as a result of collisions, which was followed by 21 motorcyclists. 17 passengers were killed up to this point in 2022, while five pedal cyclists lost their lives. One e-scooter driver/passenger and one "pillion passenger/other" have passed away.
At this point last year, there were 11 fewer fatalities at 105. The same number was recorded up to October 3 in 2019.
A Tweet by An Garda Siochana on their @GardaTraffic account said: “There have been 116 fatalities on our roads thus far in 2022, an increase of 11 deaths compared to figures at the same time last year.
“We all have a role to play in assuring we keep this to a minimum. Road traffic collisions claim lives and irreparably change others."

There has been one fatality on Irish roads in October so far. A man in his 50s died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car in Co Louth yesterday, October 2.
Gardaí are still appealing to any witnesses of this incident or road users who may have video footage, to make this available to them.
