The Boxing Day sales got underway today, with shoppers browsing for bargains both in store and online.
However, this year's sales have proved to be quieter than usual, with less shops attracting queues of shoppers in the morning. The Boxing Day sales have traditionally seen shoppers hit the high street in an attempt to bag a bargain, but only a select number of shops have had queues form outside today.
With the cost of living crisis forcing shoppers to cut back and the ongoing train strikes making it harder for some people to travel into the city centre, there may be several reasons why some people have decided to stay at home this year.

Some stores have also been closed today to allow retail staff to enjoy a well-earned break with their families. Marks and Spencer, Home Bargains and Poundland are among the retailers who opted to shut their doors today.
Queues of excited shoppers could be found outside Lush and Cricket, with both stores proving to be popular with those who headed into the city centre. The city centre became busier during the day as more people headed out to enjoy some shopping.
