Liverpool’s plans for the January transfer window have been rather quiet so far.
The Reds moved fast at the start of the month to bring in Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. Since then, all of the talk has been about whether the club will move for a new midfielder.
One report from the Mail Online has claimed that Liverpool could make a loan signing in midfield this month. The report even goes so far as to say clubs like Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid have been scouted for potential options.

Due to loan rules, Liverpool would only be able to sign one more player on loan from Juventus due to the previous signing of Arthur Melo. Plus there are also rules about players being able to play for no more than two teams during any one season.
Here, we take a look at some of the midfield options within those three clubs and how likely it could be that Liverpool make a move during the final days of the transfer window.
Atletico Madrid
Geoffrey Kondogbia
Kondogbia has been a regular in the Atletico team since his move from Valencia in 2020. The chances of the Spanish club letting him leave, on a loan deal, would be unlikely, you would think.
Saul Niguez
Liverpool have been linked with Saul before, before he signed for Chelsea on loan last season. He has made 20 appearances so far this season, but is no longer a regular starter.
Rodrigo De Paul
Another relatively recent signing by Atletico, with him arriving from Udinese in 2021. Having helped Argentina win the World Cup, the chances of him moving on loan just weeks later would seem slim.
Thomas Lemar
Liverpool fans may well be fully aware of Lemar, based on the interest from the club back in 2018. A lot has changed since then, and whether Klopp and co will have him in their thoughts remains unknown.
Marcos Llorente
Llorente has a history with Liverpool, having named his dog ‘Anfield’ after his brace in the Champions League tie in 2020. Whether he, or Liverpool, would consider reuniting is another matter.
Juventus
Adrien Rabiot
Liverpool were linked with Rabiot last summer, when there was plenty of talk that he would join Manchester United. Those rumours were somewhat tentative, though.
Weston McKennie
Liverpool have been tentatively linked with McKennie over the last few months. But reports seem to suggest that he is closing in on a move to Leeds United, so this may not be an option for the Reds.
Manuel Locatelli
Locatelli moved to Juventus in 2021 from Sassuolo, and has since been a regular for the Turin-based club. And with Arthur already being out on loan and McKennie heading for the exit door, the chances of another midfielder leaving is unlikely.
Paris Saint-Germain
Vitinha
PSG only signed Vitinha last summer from Porto. Given he has become a regular starter, the French club would be highly unlikely to let him leave on loan.
Fabian Ruiz
Similar story for Ruiz, who was signed from Napoli last summer. He also has become a regular starter in PSG’s midfield, and, you would think, is unlikely to move.
Renato Sanches
Another midfield signing by PSG last summer, Sanches has struggled with injury in his debut season in Paris. A loan move would be unlikely, but you never know if PSG have a change of heart to get the midfielder more game time.
