1000-lb Sisters' weight loss ups and downs - from dangerous habits to shedding 300lb

1000-lb Sisters stars Tammy and Amy Slaton rose to fame in the early 2020s with their TLC reality TV show about their shocking weight.

Combined, they weighed just over 1,000 pounds and struggled to shed their weight, despite their family fearing for their lives and doctors urging the duo to put their health first.

The pair planned on shedding enough weight so they could be approved for bariatric surgery.

Tammy once weighed 665 pounds and, at the time, her family believed she'd be dead within five years. Meanwhile, Amy weighed less and lost more, dropping from 400 pounds to 275 by the end of the second season of their show.

Even though she'd made some progress, by the end of season two, Tammy was a whopping 717 pounds and followed a downward spiral - turning to drinking and partying to cope with her severe depression.

In late 2021, Tammy was rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties and had a tube inserted into her throat to assist her. After years of dangerous habits, she turned over a new leaf and has since been attending rehab after spending three weeks on life support.

It was reported that Tammy quit smoking and drinking completely having lost a total of 300 pounds during her time in treatment.

Amy had a somewhat easier journey to her lower weight and was approved for gastric bypass surgery in 2019 after following her doctor's diet and exercise plan.

WHen season three aired in 2022, she had lost an extra 136 pounds and weighted 275 pounds in total. Looking back on her journey, she said: "I’m kind of nervous, because I don’t think I am where I’m supposed to be in my weight loss goal.

“I avoid the scale because then I’m focused on the number going down and if I see it going up, it’s going to make me depressed and wanna eat more. So, it’s best not to look at it," Amy added.

Before the birth of her second son Glenn in July 2022, Amy had gone from a clothing size X5 to X1. She's now estimated to weigh 225 pounds.
