1000-lb Sisters' Tammy Slaton is 'thankful to be alive' after 21 stone weight loss

Tammy Slaton has said she is "thankful to be alive" after losing a whopping 300lb (21.4 stone).

The 1000-lb Sisters star, 36, has come a long way on her weight loss journey after suffering a terrifying medical scare which saw her family told to prepare for the worst.

Tammy had been spending time at a food rehabilitation centre to try and shed the pounds, but was rushed to hospital when she stopped breathing at the facility.

She was put on a ventilator and placed in a medically induced coma.

Luckily, despite her body "shutting down", she was eventually well enough to return to rehab and continue with her weight loss.

Opening up about the hospital dash, Tammy said she learnt from it and has become more determined to lose weight.

"I wised up and got my surgery. I was able to make my lungs strong enough to get my trach out, and then recently the doctor cleared me to be off my oxygen machine during the daytime.

"Now I only wear my oxygen at night, along with my BiPap machine. I monitor my oxygen levels throughout the day and keep my machine on hand in case I need it," she explained in a new interview.

The TLC reality star needs to use the oxygen machine after her lungs were damaged when she was on life support.

"I'm feeling great! I'm thankful to be alive, and it's fun to be progressing as much as I am," Tammy told People.

Tammy initially lost a whopping 183lb (13.1 stone) after attending a food rehabilitation facility. She then underwent lifechanging weight loss surgery which resulted in her losing a total of 300lb (21.4 stone).

She addressed her oxygen use in a recent Instagram video and said her lungs are "really getting so much better", but admitted they are "still not completely healed".
