100+ female cat names

Female kitten sitting in pale pink blankets.

When naming your female cat, the most important thing is that the name suits their personality. There's no point in calling your extremely loving, would-never-hurt-a-fly kitty something like "Demonia" or a hairless cat breed "Fluffy". Unless you really love irony.

Often cat names are inspired by a feature of their appearance: Amber or Emerald after the color of their eyes, or Tabs for a tabby cat.

You could also draw inspiration from famous works of literature, your favorite TV show or video game, or even a sports team you support.

The options are endless and we understand that can make things overwhelming, so we've rounded up over 100 of our favorite female cat names below for you to peruse.

Tips for choosing female cat names

Cats do learn to recognize their names, according to an article in Scientific American, (although they often choose to ignore them). However, unlike dogs, we don't usually rely on training our cats to come back to us, so you can get a bit more creative with cat names than you can when thinking up girl dog names.

Personally, I love cat names that border on the ridiculous. I eagerly followed the antics of Potroast the cat on Instagram, and her successors Faucet and Coupon. They taught me that you really can call your cat pretty much anything and it will somehow suit them.
