The Denver Broncos have had 20 head coaches since 1960. After previously listing the 10 best winning percentages in franchise history, today we’re taking a look at the other end of the list: The 10 worst winning percentages in Broncos history.
It might seem hard to believe, but Josh McDaniels actually ranks as the best of the worst. His .393 win percentage only ranks 10th-worst in club history. McDaniels had an 11-17 record in Denver, with six of those wins coming from a 6-0 start in 2010 (the Broncos finished that season 8-8).
Immediately below McDaniels are two recent coaches in Vic Fangio (.388) and Vance Joseph (.344). Fourth from the bottom is Nathaniel Hackett (.267), who didn’t even make it through one season before being fired in 2022.
Ironically, the coach with the worst win percentage (.240) in franchise history is Mac Speedie, who is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Speedie played eight years with the Cleveland Browns before spending the final three years of his playing career in the CFL.
After hanging up his cleats, Speedie coached receivers for Houston Oilers from 1960-61 before later taking Denver’s head coach job in 1964. Speedie won four AAFC championships with the Browns and an NFL title with Cleveland during his decorated career as a receiver. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
