There's plenty of famous and iconic hotspots in Liverpool, beloved by tourists and locals alike.
There's also some places, equally as impressive, that don't garner the recognition or attention they deserve. A new study of Britain's least-explored destinations compiled several "underrated" destinations in Liverpool.
Data analysts at holiday park Cofton Holidays scoured thousands of records on Atlas Obscura, a database of more than 25,200 "hidden wonders" which are regularly overlooked and rarely appear in guidebooks.
After discovering Liverpool's most underrated destinations in the database, researchers then looked at online Google searches to see which Liverpool locations are truly the least known by the British public.
Their findings revealed the prehistoric 'The Archer Stone', the 1,000-year-old 'The Law Oak' tree, and Martin's Bank Building are among the most underrated locations in Liverpool. The Mausoleum of William Huskisson and Stanley Dock Tobacco Warehouse, which is the world’s largest brick warehouse, also featured among the findings.
Chris Jeffery, director at Cofton Holidays, commented on the park's study: "From the Royal Albert Dock and Anfield Football Stadium to the Beatles, Liverpool is famous across the world for its maritime and musical history. However, our research suggests that a significant group of people are still looking to avoid large crowds when holidaying or going on days out due to Covid-19 and other factors. Our study is aimed at revealing the treasure trove of fascinating, lesser-known destinations in the city that are just waiting to be explored by those looking to discover quieter attractions."
