From shooting 58 in a pro event to winning six times on the Korn Ferry Tour and earning his PGA Tour card, Stephan Jaeger is a grinder who has been in the pro ranks since 2012. 1. His full name is Stephan Patrick Jaeger - pronounced 'Steev-en yay-ger.'
2. Jaeger was born on May 30, 1989 in Eichenried, Germany - a town north-east of Munich.
3. Jaeger started playing golf at age 10. His parents, Sophie and Klaus, and sister, Michaela, are avid golfers and would all play on family vacations.
4. His family remains in Germany and he still speaks German fluently.
5. As a kid, Jaeger played tennis, soccer, and street hockey. He still loves playing any sports, including volleyball and basketball.
6. He moved to the United States as a 17-year-old exchange student in 2006, attending the Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee during his junior year. He stayed on for his senior year and ultimately graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in May 2012 after majoring in psychology.
7. He posted four collegiate wins and would go on to turn professional in 2012. Some other honors he received at college were; 2012 first-team PING All-American, second-team Golfweek All-American, and a three-time Southern Conference Player of the Year.
8. At the 2016 Ellie Mae Classic, Jaeger shot a 12-under par 58 in the first round. He would go on to win the event by seven strokes, and it was his first win on the Web.com Tour (now the Korn Ferry Tour). He set the 72-hole aggregate record with his 250 and tied the to-par record, at 30-under-par.
9. Thanks to a consistent 2017 Korn Ferry Tour season, Jaeger earned a PGA Tour card for 2018 after finishing fifth in the money list.
10. Jaeger has won six times on the Korn Ferry Tour, placing him tied-second on the all-time list.
11. He was named Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year in the 2020-21 season after two wins in the campaign.
12. Jaeger plays a full bag of Ping clubs.
13. Jaeger represented Germany at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, finishing T26th.
14. His best Major finish came at the 2024 US Open (Pinehurst No.2), where he ended T21st. He made his debut at both The Masters and the Open Championship in 2024.
15. Jaeger represented Germany at the 2016 World Cup of Golf alongside Alex Cejka.
16. He is married to his wife Shelby, who is a big University of Tennessee sports fan. The couple live in Chattanooga, Tennessee and have a son named Harrison. They also own a dog called Phil, with Phil often seen out supporting Stephan at tour events.
17. In 2024, Jaeger became one of the few players to beat Scottie Scheffler in tournament play that year. He did it by one stroke at the Texas Children's Houston Open after the American missed a putt to send the event into a playoff. As a result, Jaeger landed his maiden PGA Tour title and earned an exemption to The Masters.
18. Jaeger's caddie is Henry Diana, a veteran looper who has been on the bag of Bill Haas, Ben Crane, Charles Howell III and Tom Hoge.
19. In the 2024 PGA Tour season, he was ranked 21st in terms of driving distance after averaging 310.3 yards.
20. According to his PGA Tour bio, Jaeger loves cars and racing. He has said he would be a rally car driver if he were not a golfer.
