10 players the Ravens should consider targeting at NFL trade deadline

The NFL trade deadline is slated for October 31, and with the expected Halloween deals likely to make it a historic day, we’re tracking whether Baltimore will be buyers ahead of the stretch run.

The Ravens are 4-2 on the season, have one of the NFL’s top defensive units, and could add more pressure off the edge or a difference-maker at tight end or running back.

With preparation for the Week 7 matchup against Detroit underway, we’re looking at ten players Baltimore should consider targeting.

OLB Brian Burns

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (16) passes against the Carolina Panthers as Carolina Panthers linebacker Brian Burns (0) rushes during first-half action at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, Oct, 8, 2023.

According to PFF, Burns has a 77.2 pass-rush grade, 15 quarterback pressures, and five sacks through Week 6. He has earned a 70.0-plus pass-rush grade with at least 50 quarterback pressures and nine sacks in three straight seasons, and he’s on pace for career highs in 2023.

The Ravens could use an explosive player at the running back position and Barkley could offer a dual-threat that Justice Hill and Gus Edwards offer together.

Williams is a defensive difference-maker who has appeared in all six games this season and can rush the passer from multiple positions.

Hunter was one of just three players in 2022 to rack up at least 60 quarterback pressures and 40 defensive stops, adding 12 sacks and an 86.3 overall grade per PFF. So far in 2023, Hunter has 21 quarterback pressures and eight sacks and could give Baltimore the most dominant pass rush in the AFC playoffs.

TE Hunter Henry

New York Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley (57) tackles New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry (85) in the first half of a regular season game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, in East Rutherford.

Like Zach Ertz, Henry is an estabished pass catcher on a sinking ship in New Orleans.

Henry’s on the books for over $16 million for 2023, per Over the Cap, but will head for free agency in 2024.

Henry has led the NFL in rushing twice, and in his eighth season, he’s ninth in the NFL in rushing yards (425) and averaging 4.3 yards per carry in 2023.

TE Zach Ertz

Ertz has no guaranteed money left on his deal, and after losing his starting spot, he could provide Lamar Jackson with another reliable pass catcher behind, Mark Andrews.

Edge Rusher, Chase Young

Through five weeks, Young is fourth in the NFL with 27 pressures, the same number as reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa, despite rushing the passer 30 fewer times, per PFF.

Young is set to be a 2024 free agent after the Washington Commanders declined his fifth-year option, and Baltimore could keep the former Ohio State star near his childhood home.

This season, Young has appeared in five games, and recorded three sacks, and among edge defenders with at least 50 pass-rush snaps this season, Young’s 20.6% pass-rush win rate and 18.2% pressure rate rank ninth.

Edge Josh Uche

Uche generated 56 quarterback pressures and notched 12 sacks on just 285 pass-rush snaps in 2022, while his 19.2% pass-rush win rate ranked sixth among edge defenders and his 20.7% pressure rate placed second.

Even with Matthew Judon’s injury, New England could be sellers and Uche would give Baltimore another weapon off the edge.

Edge Rusher Derek Barnett

Derek Barnett has fallen out of favor in Philadelphia, and he’s gone weeks without posting a pressure or significant stat.

The Ravens have dealt with injuries at the edge rusher position, while Barnett is still only 27 years old, and could offer Baltimore another run-stuffing, pass rusher.
