Boston is a historic but modern city and you get something new each season. Here are 10 photos that will have you booking a plane or a train here as soon as possible!
1) Fenway Park
There’s a reason Fenway is “America’s most beloved ballpark”, there is not a bad seat in the house. Whether you are behind home plate or out in the bleachers, you are going to have a great time at a Red Sox game (unless you are a Yankees fan!).
2) Boston Common
The oldest public park in America, Boston Common was originally used to graze the cattle of the Boston settlers, then as a meeting place for the local militia and eventually the British soldiers. Today it is a beautiful city park, which holds festivals, concerts and in the summertime a series of free outdoor plays, as part of a program called “Shakespeare in the Park”. Locals walk through here each day on their way to work, school or wherever they need to go. It is located in the heart of town connecting Beacon Hill, Back Bay and Downtown.
3) Beacon Hill
Filled with beautiful brownstones and lined with cobblestone sidewalks, Beacon Hill is one of the most historic residential neighborhoods in Boston. Visiting Beacon Hill throughout the year brings different sights, in the spring and summertime, there are beautiful flower boxes hanging out of each window, in the fall be sure to stop by Louisburg Square to see the fabulous Halloween decorations and in the winter don’t miss the Christmas Stroll.
4) Charles River
Separating Boston and Cambridge, the Charles River runs all along the North edge of Boston. There are walking paths along both sides and all throughout the year they are buzzing with Bostonians getting their exercise in or just enjoy the skylines of both cities. And in the fall, the river’s banks are lined with spectators watching the Head of the Charles Regatta, which is the largest rowing regatta in the world.
5) The Theater District
Located in between Chinatown and Downtown, the Theater District is filled with theaters, restaurants, and bars. It is a great place to take in some culture on a night out. The historic Paramount sign also gives it a little bit of that Broadway feel.
6) The Flowers
Throughout the spring and summer, Boston is blooming! Neighborhood associations really take pride in the beauty of our streets and parks so wherever you walk during the warmer months of the year there are sure to be lots of flowers or trees in bloom.
7) The State House
The Massachusetts State House, with its gold dome, is a sight to see, but did you know you can also go inside for a free tour? Take the kids to see a live session of Congress and learn about the history of each wing of the State House.
8) The North End
Another picturesque neighborhood in Boston is the North End. Filled with dozens and dozens of Italian restaurants this is the Boston version of ‘Little Italy’. On a warm summer day there is nothing better than strolling down the winding streets, grabbing a cannoli from Mike’s Pastry and then having a relaxing dinner at one of the neighborhood trattorias.
9) The Waterfront
Boston is surrounded by water on three sides, we have the Charles River to the north and Boston Harbor to the east and south. There are so many places to take a waterside stroll when the weather is favorable.
10) The New and the Old
Boston is filled with new projects juxtaposed against historic backgrounds. Nothing shows that better than the Zakim Bridge, a relatively new addition to our skyline, set against all the history that has made our city what it is.
