With the Jewish holiday of Passover quickly approaching, many are either hosting or attending a traditional seder this season. There’s pretty strict dietary laws associated with Jewish traditions though, and those laws are even more strict during the Passover holiday. If attending a Passover celebration this season (or hosting your own!) here’s some Kosher for Passover wines to consider.
Patrón Silver
If the only way you can imagine getting through Passover dinner with your family is a stiff margarita (or even a tequila shot, we get it), this Patron Silver is the perfect white spirit made from the finest Weber Blue Agave, and it’s certified kosher for Passover.
Tzafona Vidal Ice Wine 2016
A perfect dessert wine, Tzafona’s Vidal Ice Wine is an intense taste with notes of honey, apricot, and peaches, great for after dinner.
2017 Backsberg Kosher Pinotage
Pinotage is South Africa’s signature red grape variety, and tastes something like a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault. This Pinotage was 30% aged in oak for 9 months, and has notes of blackberry, fruit jam and fruitcake, with a juicy mouthfeel and supple, sweet tannins.
Alsace The Abarbanel Lemminade Riesling 2015
Alsace’s Arbarbanel Lemminade Riesling is a 100% a kosher wine for Passover, and has a taste something like marshmallow and lemon via a dry light-to-medium body, great for an afternoon apertif or an after-dinner glass of wine.
Jezreel Adumim 2016
Jezreel Adumim is a divine choice for a dinner wine, a rich and spicy mix of Carignan, Syrah and Argaman that is aged separately for 14 to 16 months in 50% new oak before being blended and spending another two months in oak . Argaman is indigenous to Israel, making this an especially meaningful Passover wine.
Covenant Israel Blue C Viognier 2017
For those who enjoy a crisp white wine, this Covenant Israel Viognier is bright and fresh, barrel fermented in neutral oak barrels (that gives you the texture and flavor without that overwhelming taste of oak). This is a fun wine to share while chatting with a friend over the holidays.
Or Haganuz Elima 2016
Haganuz Elima is made up of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc and originates from the vineyards that overlook Mount Meron. This wine is pretty cool in that it has a fun story behind it. It undergoes a slow cold fermentation process and after that is aged in a French Oak for 14 months. It’s also made with no added sulfites, making it perfect if your seder will include anyone especially sensitive.
Herzog Lineage Rose 2018
We all need a bit of Rose in our life, right? The Herzog Lineage Rose 2018 has notes of pomegranate, raspberry and tart cherry and is a fun and fruity wine to enjoy this holiday.
Yarden Blanc de Blanc Late Disgorged 2007
It’s not a holiday without some bubbles, and the 2007 Yarden Blanc de Blancs Late Disgorged is a delight, with aromas of preserved lemons and green apples. This bottle is a bit of a splurge (comes to around $100), so this will be a great pour as as a welcome cocktail to begin the night’s festivities.
Zachlawi Dry Arak
There’s nothing quite like Arak, and a shot of it at the end of the night will assure an especially good time. This smooth liquor is kosher for Passover and has a gentle Anise flavor with fruit and wood undertones. Be ready, though, this one has quite a kick!
