1,801 new Covid cases, 13-month low

Confirmed daily Covid-19 cases fell to 1,801, the fewest since May 4, 2021, government figures showed on Monday. Deaths fell to 15, the fewest since Feb 7th this year.

The new case numbers did not include 1,984 positive results from antigen tests over the previous 24 hours. This would raise the total to 3,785.

On Sunday, 2,474 new cases and 20 coronavirus-related fatalities were announced.

As of midnight Sunday, a total of 21,786 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 22,330 the previous day), including 12,035 in hospitals (down from 12,130). Among the remainder 1,953 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 2,033) and 7,617 in home/community isolation (down from 7,980).

Of those in hospital, 661 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 659) and 329 dependent on ventilators (up from 317).

The 24-hour period also saw 2,330 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

According to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), the 1,801 new cases comprised  1,794 in the general population, one among prison inmates and six arrivals from other countries.

The CCSA said the 15 people who died were aged from 27 to 88 years and included one foreigner, from Myanmar.

Bangkok reported one new death and there was none in its adjacent provinces.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital reported two more deaths - in Ayutthaya and Ratchaburi.

The North reported two deaths, in Chiang Mai.

The Northeast had seven coronavirus-related fatalities - four in Khon Kaen, two in Nakhon Ratchasima and one in Si Sa Ket.

The South reported three deaths - in Surat Thani (2) and Pattani (1).

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,486,664 Covid-19 cases, including 2,263,229 this year, with 4,434,529 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 30,349 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 8,651 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 323,394 in 24 hours to 540.54 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 540 to 6.33 million.

The United States had the most cases at 87.32 million, up 16,284, and the most deaths at 1.03 million, up 19.
