1,795 new Covid cases, 23 more deaths

There were 23 more Covid-19 fatalities and 1,795 new cases admitted to hospitals on Thursday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Friday.

This compared with 28 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,257 cases admitted to hospitals on Wednesday, as reported on Thursday.

As of midnight Thursday, a total of 24,043 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (down from 24,191 the previous day), including 10,377 in hospitals (up from 10,288). Among the remainder, 1,109 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 1,123) and 12,517 in home/community isolation (down from 12,746).

Of those in hospital, 789 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (up from 770) and 348 dependent on ventilators (up from 337).

The 24-hour period also saw 1,920 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

All the 1,795 new cases admitted to hospitals over the 24 hours were local cases.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,554,976 Covid-19 cases, including 2,331,541 this year, with 4,499,975 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 30,958 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 9,260 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 818,388 in 24 hours to 565.31 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,408 to 6.38 million.

The United States had the most cases at 91.06 million, up 95,400, and the most deaths at 1.05 million, up 231.
