1,749 new Covid inpatients, 28 more deaths

There were 28 more Covid-19 fatalities and 1,749 new patients admitted to hospitals on Thursday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Friday.

This compared with 29 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,002 patients on Wednesday, as reported on Thursday.

As of midnight Thursday, a total of 18,182 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 18,062 the previous day), including 9,559 in hospitals (up from 9,524). Of the remainder, 202 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (down from 247) and 8,321 in home/community isolation (up from 7,813).

Of those in hospitals, 766 were seriously ill with lung inflammation (down from 790) and 377 dependent on ventilators (down from 397).

As of Friday the daily averages over a 14-day period were - 1,893 new patients, down from 2,153 as of Aug 13 figures; 766 seriously ill patients, down from 912; 377 dependent on ventilators, down from 482; and 29 coronavirus-related deaths, down from 31.

The 24-hour period also saw 1,601 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

Among 1,749 new patients over the past 24 hours, there were 1,734 cases in the general population and 15 among prison inmates.

The 28 people who died were aged from 31 to 88 years.

Bangkok logged four new deaths and there were seven new fatalities in the adjacent provinces of Samut Sakhon (1), Samut Prakan (3), Nonthaburi (1), Nakhon Pathom (1) and Pathum Thani (1).

Other central plains provinces further from the capital reported eight deaths - two each in Nakhon Sawan, Prachin Buri and Chon Buri and one each in Chachoengsao and Trat.

The North reported no new coronavirus-related deaths.

The Northeast had eight new fatalities - four in Udon Thani, two in Nakhon Ratchasima and one each in Loei and Nong Khai.

The South had one more death in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,643,012 Covid-19 cases, including 2,419,577 this year, with 4,592,664 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,166 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,468 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 706,498 in 24 hours to 604.12 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,791 to 6.48 million.

The United States had the most cases at 95.84 million, up 59,719, and the most deaths at 1.07 million, up 245.
