Authorities in Alabama are now offering a combined $100,000 reward for information surrounding a mass shooting in Birmingham over the weekend that left four dead and at least 17 others injured. The shooting took place outside a popular nightspot in the city’s Five Points South district on Saturday night.
Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin emphasized the importance of capturing and convicting those responsible for the violence. As of Monday, no suspects have been arrested, and the community is urged to come forward with any information they may have.
Woodfin condemned the perpetrators as cowards and called on the public to step up and assist in solving the case. The FBI and Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama are jointly offering the reward for any valuable information.
Police Chief Scott Thurmond stated that the investigation is ongoing, with authorities still sifting through tips. Five of the injured victims remain hospitalized, and the scene of the shooting outside Hush Lounge showed visible blood stains the following morning.
Thurmond revealed that the shooting may have been targeted at one of the victims, possibly as a murder-for-hire. Multiple shooters arrived in a vehicle, opened fire, and then fled the scene. Some of the victims had extensive criminal histories, leading to speculation about potential motives for the attack.
Law enforcement recovered about 100 shell casings from the scene and is working to determine the types of weapons used. It is believed that some of the gunfire was fully automatic, and investigators are looking into the possibility of crossfire during the incident.
Three of the victims have been identified as Anitra Holloman, Tahj Booker, and Carlos McCain, all residents of Birmingham and its suburbs. The fourth victim's identity has not been disclosed to the public at this time.
