Trump Advisor Defies Campaign, Defends Kamala Harris Against Sarah Huckabee Sanders Attack: 'I Was Blessed to Have a Stepmother'

A Senior Advisor on Donald Trump's campaign has come out defending Kamala Harris after Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders attacked her for not having kids of her own.

Bryan Lanza said in an interview on CNN NewsNight, "I, too, was blessed to have a stepmother. I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't be able to have conversations without a stepmother so I found that comment to be actually offensive."

During a Trump "town hall" Tuesday in Flint, Michigan, Sanders implied that the vice president not having any biological children meant that she had nothing to "keep her humble." Harris does have step-children through her marriage with Doug Emhoff, as reported by The Hill.

'I don't know what more to say. I'm disappointed in Sarah for saying that. I'm sure I'm going to get criticism from the campaign," Lanza said on CNN. "But I have to sort of defend somebody who's a stepmom. It's a tough job. People who step into that role, it's usually a difficult dynamic."

Political analyst and conservative commentator Scott Jennings, who was also on NewsNight, said that he did not like Sanders' comment either, sharing that while he enjoyed being a father, having a stepmother was an important part of his life too, as reported by Mediaite.

"I think having families is wonderful. It may not be for everybody and some people may not be able to and some people can't for various reasons. I don't think anybody ought to be demonized for that," Jennings said on CNN.
