The Chairman of the National Black Caucus of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has raised concerns over the union's decision to withhold an endorsement of a presidential candidate this year. James Curbeam expressed disappointment in Teamsters President Sean O’Brien for not standing up to former President Donald Trump, whom he labeled as a 'bully.' Curbeam also questioned the validity of the polling data that the union used to justify its unprecedented move of not endorsing a candidate for the first time in nearly thirty years.
According to Teamsters, internal polling indicated that a majority of its members favored Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris. Curbeam challenged the accuracy of the polling numbers, asking for transparency regarding the number of participants in the polls and suggesting that the results may be biased.
Curbeam strongly criticized any labor leader who supports Trump, stating that such individuals should relinquish their union membership. He referenced a recent conversation between Trump and Elon Musk where Trump allegedly praised Musk for dismissing workers, highlighting Trump's disregard for the power of labor unions and strikes.
Curbeam revealed that the union's Black Caucus is taking independent action to mobilize support for Harris, indicating a divergence in opinion within the organization regarding the preferred presidential candidate.
