Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez (25th) called the fatal shooting “incredibly tragic on multiple levels and the type of homicide we can do more to prevent.”

The shooting happened late Friday in the 2600 block of West Luther.

Claronte Cummings, 28, was found facedown with a gunshot wound to the head in the 3000 block of West 21st Place.

CPD officials wouldn’t say whether any of the officers had been stripped of police powers or whether the allegations involving the underage girl had been given to prosecutors.

Jose Alvarez, 67, was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery from discharging a firearm.

Nearly half of the people shot were in just three police districts: Deering and Englewood on the South Side, and Chicago Lawn on the Southwest Side.

The 17-year-old son, shot in the ankle, hid behind parked cars and fled to a neighbor’s house in the 2600 block of South Millard Avenue, according to a police report.

The boy was shot in the chest in the 2200 block of South California Avenue, police said. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
