Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy and are looking for another two teenagers after a 16-year-old was stabbed to death in Melbourne's west.
A group of school children was confronted by an aggressive-looking group of boys on Thursday afternoon on Station Place at Sunshine, Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson said on Friday.
Three young people were injured as a result of an incident that ensued, with one taken to hospital and another treated at the scene.
The 16-year-old boy, from Melton South, was treated by paramedics but died.
Police were speaking with two schools where the teenagers attended in the wake of the incident and were looking for the other two teenage boys suspected of involvement.
Det Supt Stevenson said officers were working on bringing the two teens into custody.
"We'd much prefer if they actually gave themselves up, it would make everything a lot easier," she said.
The 17-year-old in custody was from Caroline Springs.
