Dutch goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar has completed a permanent transfer to Arsenal after spending one season at Aston Villa. The 24-year-old made a total of 15 appearances for Aston Villa during her debut season in the Women's Super League (WSL).
In a statement released by the club, van Domselaar expressed her excitement about joining Arsenal, stating, 'I'm really happy to be here. If you look at Arsenal -- the players, the team, the stadium -- it's a huge club, and I'm so excited to be part of this club. I want to win trophies and achieve big things, and Arsenal is the right place for me to do both. I can't wait to play at Emirates Stadium in front of all the supporters and show what I can do.'
Van Domselaar began her football career at youth level with LSVV and Telstar in the Netherlands before making her professional debut with FC Twente in 2017. She went on to make 106 appearances for Twente, securing three league titles and five domestic trophies during her six-year tenure at the club.
On the international stage, van Domselaar earned the position of the Netherlands' first-choice goalkeeper after her debut in 2022.
Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall expressed his delight at the signing, stating, 'We're delighted to bring Daphne to the club. She is a top goalkeeper with significant experience on major stages, and we believe she has great potential for future development as well. Daphne will enhance our goalkeeper unit alongside Manu and Naomi, making a strong addition to the team as we gear up for the upcoming season.'
