Bonnie Tyler 'left it too late' to have a family after suffering a miscarriage at 39

Bonnie Tyler has revealed that she felt as though she ‘left it too late’ to have a family following a heartbreaking miscarriage.

The 80’s pop icon, 69, who has been married to husband Robert Sullivan for over 50 years, has opened up about the lasting impact the loss made on her life.

The Total Eclipse Of The Heart hitmaker, who turns 70 this year, admitted that having a family wasn’t ‘meant to be’.

“I left it too late to have a family,” she told Love Sunday Magazine.

“When I was 39, it felt like the right time to stop the pill and see what happened. I was so lucky because I fell pregnant almost straight away.

“Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be and I had a miscarriage.”

Although Bonnie was left heartbroken by the loss, she found comfort in her young nephew, who was living with her and Robert at the time.

“It was horrible at the time, but I just threw myself into work,” the songstress told.

“My nephew Christopher lived with me at home in Swansea. He’s my eldest brother’s son. He’s so funny and just fantastic. He’s in his fifties now, but he was only 20 when I asked him to live with us.”

Bonnie, who tied the knot with her beloved husband when she was only 22, also shared the secret to their long-lasting marriage.

The legendary singer insisted that their love is still as strong as the day they said ‘I do’ - and her admiration for Robert continues to grow each day thanks to his kind and ‘gentle’ soul.

And although her music career has been halted due to the ongoing coronavirus, Bonnie has been thoroughly enjoying being holed up at home with her other half.

After years of touring and travelling, the pair are ‘truly making the most’ of their time together since lockdown began in March of last year.

Bonnie’s new album, The Best Is Yet To Come, is available on all streaming services now.
