Wood House Care Home in Bristol receives high praise from CQC

Wood House Care Home in Southmead, Bristol, has been praised for being “exceptionally well-led” by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The care home, which supports people with learning disabilities, received an ‘outstanding’ rating for being well-led and a ‘good’ rating for its safety.

The home celebrated its achievement with a party for staff, residents, and families. The festivities included a buffet lunch, entertainment from the Special Occasions mascots, and a balloon entertainer. Guests enjoyed food such as a hog roast and Filipino and Bangladeshi cuisine.

In the CQC report, Wood House was highlighted for promoting a positive culture that is person-centred, open, inclusive, and empowering. The report stated that people were at the heart of the service and that the staff team worked together under the direction of management to support residents in gaining new skills, building confidence, and leading the lives they wanted.

Service manager Jacqueline Ryan expressed her pride in the achievement. “Only five per cent of adult social care services throughout England have been rated as ‘outstanding’ in this category,” she said. “The achievement is a testament to the hard work of the staff. I know that each member of the team at Wood House is incredibly proud of the care that we provide, and I am delighted that all their hard work has been recognised.”

Wood House is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for 16 people with learning and physical disabilities. Shaw Healthcare, the largest employee-owned healthcare provider in the UK, operates it.
