A MAN accused of filming women without their consent in the bathroom at the University of Newcastle's city campus has been arrested and charged.

The 23-year-old was arrested at a Fletcher home about 8.50am on Thursday, after police investigated reports of a man allegedly filming women in the public bathroom on April 29.

The man was taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with intentionally recording an intimate image without consent.

He was granted strict conditional bail and will face Newcastle Local Court later this month.

Last week, Newcastle police confirmed they were investigating reports a man may have taken footage in a women's toilet at the educational institute on Hunter Street.

The city campus is accessible to members of public and the Newcastle Herald understands that university staff have been told to be aware of their surroundings in light of the alleged incident.co
