White Sox Sign Reigning KBO MVP to Two-Year Deal

The White Sox are set to bolster their starting rotation, making a splash early into free agency with the addition of the 2023 KBO MVP, Erick Fedde.

Fedde will sign for Chicago on a two-year, $15 million deal, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who first reported the transaction on Tuesday.

Fedde, 30, spent the 2023 season overseas in Korea with the NC Dinos, where he registered a sterling 2.00 ERA and racked up 20 wins as the league’s Most Valuable Player.

He’ll return to MLB with the White Sox, having last pitched in the Majors in 2022 as a member of the Nationals. That season, Fedde registered a 5.81 ERA across 27 starts, striking out 94 batters in 127 innings.

In six seasons in MLB, all of which were spent with Washington, Fedde has never recorded an ERA below 4.00. He’s made 102 pitching appearances, including 88 starts, logging a career ERA of 5.41.

In late November, it had been reported that Fedde was weighing options from MLB teams as well as organizations in the KBO. The Dinos reportedly made the right-hander an offer that was the “best” possible within the rules of the KBO, according to Seoul’s Yonhap News

Despite that reported offer, Fedde has opted to return to MLB, latching on with the White Sox as he looks to build off his successful season in the KBO.
