What Yussuf Poulsen has said about his RB Leipzig future amid Leeds United links

RB Leipzig forward Yussuf Poulsen says there have been no talks regarding his future at the Red Bull Arena with Leeds United reportedly monitoring the Danish striker. The 29-year-old, who is approaching the final year of his contract and available as a free agent in the summer of 2024, has been linked with a move to Elland Road this summer.

Daniel Farke is said to be open to Patrick Bamford leaving the Whites this summer, with Poulsen among those targeted to replace the outgoing frontman. The Danish international has been an ever present since his move to RB Leipzig back in 2013 and has played a major part in their rise through the German League's.

Poulsen was part of the RB Leipzig side that won the DFB-Pokal last season, but there have been no talks over a fresh deal. However, his comments about playing at the highest level possible may rule out a move to Elland Road.

"At the moment I don't know. We haven't talked about an extension or a transfer yet," Poulsen told Sport Bild.

"I don't have any specific career goals. I want to play at the highest level for as long as possible, whether at RB or elsewhere is not important."

Timo Werner, Ralf Rangnick and more recently, RB Leipzig's sporting director Max Eberl, have all praised Poulsen with the latter of the trio highlighting his importance in the dressing room. However, the 29-year-old claims it's his performances on the pitch that will warrant a new deal.

"There is no player who only has a contract because he is good for the dressing room," Poulsen said.

"You have to back it up with your performances. The last few weeks have shown that I still have that level. Nevertheless, the statement is a compliment."
