Watch major flashpoint as Rangers goal against Celtic overturned after VAR check

Chris Sutton and Kenny Miller agreed to disagree as Rangers were ruled out an opener against Celtic at Ibrox today.

Kemar Roofe appeared to have opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, but VAR subsequently ruled the goal out for a foul in the build up.

Referee Don Robertson adjudged Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers to have fouled Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke as he robbed possession, but it was not clear who instigated the contact.

Reacting to the call, Kenny Miller said on Sky Sports: “That is not a foul though Chris, is it? He just gets outmuscled.

“Lagerbielke kicks the back of Dessers leg. It is ridiculous if he gives the free kick for that.

“There is contact, but who initiates the contact? Who knows. That is not a free-kick.”

Chris Sutton then weighed in saying he could see why the decision was given.

He continued: “There was contact on Lagerbielke. You could say it is soft but I can see it.

“You don’t normally hear Rangers fans cheer like that when they get a goal ruled out.

“There is contact but it is how much?”

Rangers also had a goal ruled out after just one minute when Rabbi Matondo rolled in from close range. The striker was ruled to be offside and replays showed that the decision was correct.
