Victory brace for life without striker Bruno Fornaroli

Melbourne Victory coach Tony Popovic is keeping his cards close to his chest as he weighs up a solution to the absence of red-hot striker Bruno Fornaroli.

The veteran centre forward is currently in the Middle East preparing for the Socceroos Asian Cup campaign after a sparkling start to the A-League Men campaign earned him a recall.

If Australia advance to the final Fornaroli, who has netted 13 of Victory's 21 goals in their opening 10 games, won't return to these shores until mid February.

Undefeated as they head to face Perth, Popovic says second-placed Victory have a range of options available to them as they bid to leapfrog Wellington into top spot on the table.

"I wouldn't say we've necessarily tried so many different things this week," Popovic said.

"We've been constantly putting players in different positions throughout the pre-season and the season thus far in anticipation that there could be an injury or a suspension.

"Obviously, it's come up in a different way with the Socceroos call-up for Bruno but we feel we have good alternatives and good options in that area."

Chris Ikonomidis looms as the most likely man to lead the line for Victory, although Zinedine Machach or Ben Folami are also at Popovic's disposal.

Victory's chances of continuing their unbeaten run have been boosted by the fact Perth will be without two reliable centre backs due to suspension.

Mark Beevers and Aleksandar Susjnar will both sit out Saturday's game but Popovic knows all too well a trip to Perth can be fraught with danger.

"We know they have quality and I know first-hand how tough it is to get results in Perth from coaching there," Popovic said.

"They have got good support, but we expect a very difficult game and we have to approach it in that manner and respect our opponent.

"If we can navigate the difficulties that this trip brings we know with the football we're playing, we have a chance to continue on this great run."
