This Morning fans rage at show for 'ruining' Long Lost Family with major spoilers

Fans of Long Lost Family have been left fuming with Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary and This Morning in general after the show dropped a major spoiler for an upcoming episode.

Viewers tuning in to Monday morning’s episode of the ITV long-running magazine show were intrigued to see members of a family gathered together on the sofa.

The guests were all participants of an episode of Long Lost Family – and will be featured on an episode due to air on Monday night.

But any twists and surprises from the episode were promptly ruined by This Morning as guest Sarah Hathaway’s family history was fully directed during the five minute segment of the show.

Long Lost Family is hosted by Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell and sees members of the public learnt he truth about their lineage – and find family members they never knew they had.

But Alison and Dermot’s line of questioning gave everything away as show guest Sarah, who had been given up for adoption, explained that she discovered she had siblings when she learned the truth about her birth mother’s name.

Sarah explained: “I had my mother’s marriage certificate sent to me in February this year. From there it was a whirlwind.”

Dermot asked: “You always thought she had a different name?”

Sarah continued: “Yes. Basically I was told that she was Sarah Williams on my birth certificate, but she was Sally and that’s what she had that on all her documentation.”

Alison then said: “And that changed everything? And you discovered you have siblings” – and then introduced Kerry and Dean, Sarah’s biological brother and sister.

With the family history exposed on the daytime show, fans of Long Lost Family were then furious that the episode had effectively been spoiled.

One viewer took to Twitter to blast This Morning, writing: “They always spoil the outcome of programmes on here.”

Another sarcastically tweeted: “Thanks for telling us everything that's happened!”

And another raged: “Long Lost Family...TOTALLY ruined now...discuss it AFTER its shown NOT before....idiots!”

Many fans questioned why the producers of This Morning didn’t wait to interview the family until the morning after Long Lost Family had aired. One tweeted: “Why didn’t they show this story tomorrow!?”

And another wrote: “The whole point of #LongLostFamily is to follow the person on their journey. Why is #ThisMorning showing them reunited before the episode is shown? Have people switched off watching LLF?”

Long Lost Family airs on ITV1 and via ITVX tonight at 9pm.
