The Hollywood names and famous faces who now support Wrexham

Gone are the days when the most well-known Racecourse faces were former Blue Peter presenter Tim Vincent, Den Perry from ‘Phoenix Nights’ and the fella from Sky Sports.

Because ever since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been involved with Wrexham, the club has become the hottest ticket for a number of their celebrity pals.

Now fans are more than likely to bump into Paul Rudd drinking a pint in The Turf or Will Ferrell buying a scarf from the club shop as a number of the rich and famous head to the Wrexham Hills (known locally as Bersham slag heap).

Here we take a look at the celebs who have come out to support Wrexham, those who might be appearing at a football ground near you soon as well as the other ‘supporting cast’ of high-profile supporters...

You can order you special 84-page glossy souvenir, which celebrates Wrexham's remarkable achievement and features more brilliant stories like these, here.

When they went and what they saw: The Hollywood A-Lister is good friends with Reynolds and recently starred alongside him in the film ‘Spirited’.

The 55-year-old first turned out to support Wrexham at their Wembley FA Trophy Final defeat to Bromley last season before paying a visit to the Racecourse to watch the 3-1 win over Wealdstone in February.

Wearing one of the club’s green training jackets, Ferrell spent time having a pre-match pint at The Turf as well as being given a tour around the ground.

What they said: “Really excited to see the match and I’ll be honest with you I’m a little nervous.”

Name: Jason Sudekis

When they went and what they saw: Known for playing ‘out-of-his-depth’ football manager Ted Lasso, Sudekis made an on-screen joke questioning the owners’ commitment to the Wrexham cause during an episode of the hit Apple TV show.

It led to a hilarious response from Reynolds and McElhenney demanding biscuits as a way of an apology.

They duly arrived and shortly afterwards Sudekis was seen alongside the pair cheering Wrexham on during last May’s FA Trophy defeat to Bromley.

What they said: On winning promotion - “It’s something else and I couldn’t be happier for them. As long as the folks of Wrexham are happy, then I’m happy as hell as well.”

What they said: Olson, who is also married to McElhenny, said: “I’m so proud of this team. I’m so excited. We have such excitement for this beautiful community who are rallying around this team.”

Other Celebrity Fans - which of these could turn up at Cae Ras soon?

Russell Crowe: Although a well-known Leeds fan, the Oscar-winner’s grandfather was born in the town and recently tweeted his praise for the Wrexham story so far in response to a selfie by American ex-basketball player Rex Chapman wearing a Wrexham shirt. He also congratulated the Hollywood pair when they took over the club in February 2021.

Hugh Jackman: The Aussie actor, who plays Wolverine in the ‘X-Men’ films, is a close friend of Reynolds with the pair often exchanging Wrexham-related banter on social media.

Jason Watkins & John Cleese: BAFTA TV award-winner Watkins, known for 'The Lost Honour of Christopher Jeffries', recently shared a photo on Twitter of him and ‘Monty Python’ and ‘Fawlty Towers’ icon Cleese both wearing Wrexham shirts.

Watkins has been a fan after playing a couple of friendlies in Wrexham’s youth team in the late 1970s with Cleese gifting him a Wrexham shirt and wearing one while filming ‘Hold the Sunset’ together.

Son Heung-min: The Spurs man is said to be a 'massive' Wrexham fan thanks to the Welcome to Wrexham documentary.

Elliot Lee explains: “My friend Tom Lockyer plays for Wales and he was with Ben Davies the other day and Ben said that Sonny is a massive Wrexham fan now."

Dragons players decided to send him a little message by doing his famous photo celebration after beating Aldershot in November.

Little did they know that would create an international incident when a few months later Sheffield United complained Wrexham were being 'disrespectful'. They cited the picture when the sides drew Spurs in the cup - saying the Dragons already thought they were playing Spurs before their controversial replay.

Jack Whitehall: The Comedian and ‘Bad Education’ star is a big fan of Paul Mullin, taking to Twitter to put himself forward to play the role of Super Paul Mullin should a movie about the club ever be made.

Conor McGregor: The UFC champion has been so impressed with Wrexham’s exploits, he made sure the town was the first outside of his Dublin establishment to sample his new Nitro Irish Stout - ‘Forged’.

Sending a special delivery to The Turf, McGregor donated all proceeds from the sales to the local Your Space autism charity where striker Paul Mullin is a patron - as well as donating a further £10k for the cause.

Sir Anthony Hopkins: Following Wrexham’s historic promotion, Ryan Reynolds was branded an "honorary Welsh boyo" by the acting legend.

Jeremy Vine: Despite previously suggesting Welsh was on par with a foreign language in the UK, the presenter has recently taken to Twitter to declare ‘right now, there is no sexier football club in the WORLD than Wrexham’.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan: Known as the iconic Negan in ‘The Walking Dead’, Morgan is often tweeting his fervent excitement for all things Wrexham - even celebrating his 57th birthday by watching the win over Boreham Wood.

Jason Bateman & Will Arnett: The Hollywood actors, stars of Arrested Development, have both previously taken to Twitter to showcase training gear they have been gifted by the club, with Bateman sporting some nifty Wrexham PJs.

Ruth Dodsworth: The ITV weather presenter is a big Wrexham fan after falling in love with not only her husband - but the club. She even presented the weather in her Wrexham shirt after the club were promoted.
