The amazing petting zoo in Greater Manchester where kids can meet newborn lambs and goats this February half term

Farms and petting zoos are popular all year round, but there's never a better time to visit than when the babies are being born.

Cockfields Farm in Greater Manchester welcomed the first of its new arrivals this week, when aptly named baby kids Romeo and Cupid were born to mum Harriet on Valentine's Day.

The petting zoo, on the border of Ashton and Oldham, attracts visitors from miles around and is gearing up for one of its busiest seasons.

Over the next fortnight, the place is expecting to welcome around 20 lambs and 20 kids, so preparations are under way on its very own 'maternity ward'.

Manager Mark Navin says February half term is one of the most exciting times for families to visit.

"We love this time of year, seeing all the new life being brought into the world," he said. "And it’s so great to be able to teach the visitors all about how the lambs are born.

"We think kids and adults get so much out of this time of year, it’s just so educational and amazing if you get to catch a live birth."

The attraction's Kidz on the Block event is running across half term, from now until February 26.

As well as the lambs and kids, it features all the usual farm fun including cuddling the guinea pigs, grooming bunnies, meeting the snakes and naked rats and lots more.

There's a play area for kids to enjoy and a carousel running throughout the day.

Tickets cost from £10 a ticket online. For more details and to book, see the website.
