Sydney Sweeney's Jet Black Bob Wasn’t on My Met Gala Bingo Card

Sydney Sweeney attends the 2024 Met Gala wearing a jet black bob wig.

When preparing for the 2024 Met Gala, we were told to watch out for fairytale-inspired looks. Karol G brought the vision early in the night when she showed up with pointed prosthetic ears ("I think this was the perfect opportunity for me to express how much I love fairies," she explained during her red carpet interview.) Lana Del Rey was also giving creature of the forest, while Gigi Hadid looked like a retro Cinderella with her pretty blonde coif.

Still, there was one celebrity who went full princess—Disney princess—and we did not see it coming. Toward the end of the evening, Sydney Sweeney appeared sporting a black banged bob à la Snow White herself.

While Sweeney in a bob is nothing new (hairstylist Glen Oropeza, aka @glencocoforhair, chopped her locks back in March), it's rare that we see her without her blonde hue. Also the work of Oropeza, this jet-black style was majorly pigmented and first seen under the cover of a rhinestoned veil, causing fans to wonder if it was really the Anyone But You actress hiding under there after all.

The 26-year-old paired the new style with a fluffy ruched blue strapless gown by Miu Miu that was a bit more Cinderella than Snow White (though not nearly as Cinderella as Zendaya's infamous light-up gown from the 2019 Met Gala) and black latex gloves fit for a darker kind of fairytale. Styled by Molly Dickson, the gown was covered in embroidered flowers.

Makeup artist Melissa Hernandez finished the look, choosing to go in a dewy direction complete with one of the night's biggest beauty trends: rose blush. (Hadid actually stole the "lips as red as blood" style for the evening, not that Sweeney's glossy nude-pink pout was missing anything.) Sweeney was also glittering from head to toe thanks to a healthy dose of shimmery body makeup.

When Sweeney chopped her hair in March, she hinted that there was a reason for the cut. “You have to wait and see,” she told People at the time.

While The Met Gala is as good a reason as any, I'm going to bet this is a wig and Sweeney has something else up her poofy sleeves. Nevertheless, we'll wait until the clock strikes midnight to be sure—princesses are excellent at transformations.
