ScotRail provides update on travel disruption as Arctic conditions hit Scotland

SCOTRAIL has confirmed disruption to a number of services on Monday morning with a yellow warning in place for parts of Scotland.

A Met Office warning for snow and ice is currently in place for the north of Scotland before it spreads to the whole country from tomorrow.

In a post on Twitter/X, the rail operator said: “Following the advice of Network Rail, the decision has been made to cancel some early morning services between Perth and Inverness.

“Please remember to check your journey before travelling on our app, website and JourneyCheck.”

A separate statement confirmed the details of the services which would be disrupted. It said: “Due to expected bad weather, we are cancelling three trains tomorrow morning (Monday, January 15) between Perth and Inverness, on the advice of Network Rail.

“The trains affected are the 06.47 Kingussie to Inverness, the 08.38 Edinburgh to Inverness which will terminate in Perth and the 08.43 Inverness to Glasgow Queen Street which will only run from Perth to Glasgow.

“There are alternative services before and after the 08.38 and 08.43 although journeys will take longer.”

People were encouraged to check the ScotRail app, social media channels and website for the latest updates.

Meanwhile, Traffic Scotland confirmed the following roads are currently closed due to snow:

  • A93 Braemar-Spittal of Glenshee
  • A939 Cockbridge – Tomintoul

Traffic Scotland encouraged anybody who was out driving to take care on the roads and drive carefully with snow already lying on a number of routes.
