Angela Yu will follow in her parents' footsteps after being selected in the Australian badminton team for the Paris Olympics.

Yu, 21, is the daughter of He Tian Tang, who won bronze in women's badminton for China at the 1996 Olympics and also claimed bronze for Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Her father, Yu Qi, also played badminton for the Chinese national team.

And Angela and her brother Jack represented Australia in the sport at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

This will be Angela's Olympic debut.

"Having the opportunity to follow my mum's footsteps to an Olympic Games has always been a life-long dream," she said.

Yu will compete in women's doubles alongside Tokyo Olympian Setyana Mapasa, 28, who has been the top women's doubles player in Australia and was ranked No.8 in the world alongside her former partner Gronya Somerville.

Mapasa and Yu won gold together at the Oceania Championships this year, and are ranked No.16 in the world.

Also selected is Tiffany Ho, 26, who will make her Olympic debut.

She will play in the women's singles after being ranked 17th at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and also winning this year's national singles title.

The badminton team will be led by head coach Leanne Choo, who competed at the Olympics in 2012 and 2016. She is the first female head coach at Badminton Australia.

"Being a previous Olympian, I'm super-proud and excited for these guys," Choo said.

"The (doubles) girls just cracked the top 30 this week ... so I really believe in their ability."
