Ringo Starr, Stella McCartney and more wish Paul McCartney a happy 80th birthday

Sir Paul McCartney celebrates his 80th birthday today, and a whole host of celebs have taken to social media to send the Beatles legend some birthday wishes.

Sir Paul was born in Walton on June 18, 1942, and, alongside bandmates John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison, helped to revolutionise the music world, touring the globe and breaking records with a whole host of chart-topping hits. The Liverpool icon has also encountered huge success in his glittering solo after releasing his first solo album “McCartney”, in 1970.

And Sir Paul shows no signs of slowing down, as next week will see the 80-year-old become Glastonbury's oldest ever headline act when he takes to the stage at the festival on Saturday, June 25. And we've rounded up a list of celebrities who've wished Macca a happy birthday.

Ringo Starr

Ringo Starr has taken to Twitter to post a touching message to his former bandmate, who he has remained close friends with since The Beatles split in 1970. His message referenced the Beatles song “Birthday”, which opened the second half of the band's iconic 'The White Album'.

The pair last performed together in 2018, when they sang “Get Back” live on stage at London’s 02 Arena alongside Rolling Stones’ legend Ronnie Wood. Starr, who turns 81 next month, tweeted out a photo of himself flashing the peace sign.

He added the caption: “They say it’s your birthday Saturday happy birthday Paul love you man have a great day peace and love Ringo and Barbara love love peace and love. [sic]”

Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan may once have been scolded by Sir Paul after running a story about the singer's relationship with ex-wife Heather Mills, but the broadcaster has still shared some birthday wishes on social media.

The 57-year-old posted a black and white throwback pic alongside the simple caption "Happy 80th Birthday, Macca!"

Sean Ono Lennon

John Lennon's son, Sean, took to Instagram to post a cover of Beatles' hit, 'Here, there and everywhere', in honour of Sir Paul's birthday.

The 46-year-old musician told his dad's former bandmate that he has the whole world's "undying love and respect".

Stella McCartney

Paul's daughter, fashion designer Stella McCartney, shared a sweet video of a birthday cake which read "Happy Birthday Paul", with a caption reading: "They say it’s your birthday…we are gonna have a good time… a great time…the greatest time! Love you dad".

Brian Wilson

American musician Brian Wilson shared a photo of himself and Sir Paul to honour the Beatles' legend's 80th birthday. Wilson, 79, who founded the Beach Boys, shared a stage with Paul back in 2002, when the pair sang Beach Boys hit ‘God Only Knows’.

Sir Paul has described the song as his "favourite of all time".
