Rangers could face Robby McCrorie battle with clubs 'keeping tabs' after Jack Butland arrival

Rangers could face a battle to keep Robby McCrorie with several clubs keeping tabs on his situation, according to a report.

Michael Beale handed the stopper the chance to impress in the end of season run-in and he did just that with the 25-year-old conceding just one goal in the final stages against Hibs at Easter Road.

However, it is expected he will start the season as back-up following the free transfer arrival of Jack Butland. The England international has penned a four-year deal after leaving Crystal Palace this summer following a loan stint at Manchester United. Allan McGregor's exit and Jon McLaughlin looking likely to follow opened the door for the Scotland squad man with the Scottish Sun reporting he had been promised the chance to make the starting berth his own this season.

But Butland's arrival looks set to see him start as No2 with a number of clubs now keeping a close eye less than a year after he penned extended terms states the same report.

Speaking after the 3-0 win over Celtic last month, Beale said: “I think he will only get better with time. He’s 100 per cent in my thinking.

“Listen, we are going to lose one goalkeeper because he is out of contract. We are not in the job of signing bad ones. We’ve had Allan and Jon (McLaughlin), two Scottish internationals, and Robby has been in the group.

“He has been injured for four of the six months I’ve been here, but he always knew he would get an opportunity. All he can do is keep playing as he did today. I think that’s four clean sheets on the bounce as a Rangers first-team keeper so that’s not a bad record to upkeep. He has set a high standard for himself.”
