Raiders expected to release former Pro Bowl WR Hunter Renfrow

The writing has been on the wall for a while now, but it seems that Hunter Renfrow’s time in Las Vegas is coming to an end. After a terrific 2021 season where he caught over 100 passes, Renfrow has an afterthought on offense for the Raiders.

Over the last two seasons, Renfrow has totaled just 585 yards on 61 catches and has been reduced to a part-time player in the offense. Renfrow was a stud in Jon Gruden’s offense, but never found the same success with Josh McDaniels.

According to Pro Football Focus, the Raiders are expected to move on from Renfrow sometime over the next few weeks. That move would save the Raiders more than $8 million, which is a no-brainer. Here is why the site believes that move will happen soon:

This move has been percolating for some time, as Las Vegas has shopped Renfrow in trades for more than a year. With Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers as the clear one-two and the steady emergence of rookie Tre Tucker, the finances finally align with the roster decision.

The Raiders are already paying two big contracts at receiver and are really excited about the future of Tucker. Plus, the Raiders might want to add more size to the unit this offseason, and having Renfrow on the roster would make it difficult to do that because of roster constrictions.

Renfrow should have a strong market in free agency as he’s just 28 years old and is one of the better slot receivers in the NFL. He will finish his career with the Raiders racking up 2,884 receiving yards on 269 receptions with 17 touchdowns.
