Queen of the South boss blasts nine man flops after Montrose defeat

Doonhamers chief Marvin Bartley blasted his nine-man flops for another shocking show.

The South started in dazzling form against Montrose and could have been two goals in front in the opening few minutes before Jack Brydon headed their first goal.

But Brydon turned from hero to villain by conceding a penalty which Rory McAllister converted earning a red card for his troubles. Then Stephen Hendrie hammered a fabulous long-range goal to make it 2-1.

However, the Gable Endies surged back and Craig Brown cracked in a second equaliser before McAllister made it 3-2 for the visitors.

But boss Bartley was blazing at the second sending off of Hendrie for two yellow cards within minutes. He said: “I am not going to have a go at referees, that’s firmly on us and I have let Stephen know that.

“To get a first booking and then a second booking that quickly, that cannot happen. People have to learn and learn from that very quickly.”

Bartley added: “We have been on a fantastic run recently. And now what good teams do is bounce back from defeat.

“We started fantastically well in this game and then capitulated with two goals and they were avoidable goals.”

He refused to point the finger at referee Colin Steven for the red card decision for Brydon at the first goal and penalty.

He said: “The rules are that if the ref feels it is a genuine attempt to play the ball then it is not a red card, but it if it’s not a genuine attempt then it is.

“I was watching from the stand and it is a different view.

“I’ve served my touchline ban and it’s cold up there. You get a good view, but I prefer to be in the dugout.

“I won’t be back up there again, I’m going to be a good boy.”
