Police hit surf to arrest teen accused of armed robbery

A teenager accused of armed robbery was arrested by police in the Gold Coast surf. (HANDOUT/QUEENSLAND POLICE)

Surfers Paradise proved anything but for one teenager after Gold Coast police waded into the waves to arrest the 19-year-old on the tourist strip.

Police hit the surf after responding to reports of an armed robbery late on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old is accused of stealing medications from a Surfers Paradise chemist at about 11.30pm after allegedly threatening staff with a knife.

Police said the teen tried to dump the contents of his bag in the surf when officers later located him nearby on the beach.

Police have released body worn footage of an officer wading into the water and arresting the teenager.

The 19-year-old Upper Coomera man has been charged with armed robbery and is set to appear in Southport Magistrates Court later on Thursday.
